just clear about what I need to do, and not emotionally dragged down".

Winter is the best time of year to go deep within yourself and connect with your inner reserves. As winter wears on, here are a few simple tips to help you make the most of this season.

Rest. The Chinese classics advise us to go to bed when it gets dark and to rise AFTER the sun. Don’t be afraid to let yourself surrender to sleep. Practice conserving your energy so that you’re ready for spring.

Protect Yourself from Cold. Excess cold can cause us to feel paralyzed, frozen, or stuck. On a phy...

We’re in the time of year (autumn) associated with the organs of the Lung (Chinese Medicine uses the singular to refer to the two lungs) and the Large Intestine.

While autumn is a season of decline, it’s also a season of great inspiration. The leaves flash their most beautiful colors before they die off and drop down. Nature makes a grand show as the passing of this season propels us to make more time to reflect and retreat.

Autumn is naturally a little melancholic. The associated emotion...

Summer is HOT. And summer is generally the most social time of year! Sometimes the intensity of expending so much energy with potlucks, bbqs, picnics, concerts, and even vacations can start to wear us down.

That’s why it’s necessary to come back to our own experience and to move through this season of maximum expansion (maximum heat and light) with an awareness of what we really need.

While it feels wonderful to expand outwards, to enjoy more daylight and perhaps a more jam-packed social s...

With the last of the snow safely (I think?) behind us, my thoughts have turned to the energy of spring, a brand new cycle of the year. If you’ve saved up enough juju during the wintertime, you’re probably itching to get outside and get moving.

This fabulous NPR podcast on the science related to movement has four tips to help you incorporate more movement into your life. It’s great for those of us who already move around a lot and those of us who need some support to get moving a bit more.

Someone I have been working with recently asked me “Did you do something to help me change my career?”

She told me that six months ago (about the time we started working together), she would never have felt strong enough to start taking the steps she was now taking towards making a significant career change, but now she was feeling so much stronger overall, with less anxiety and a lot more confidence in herself.

That’s the kind of side-effect I love!

Occasionally patients are confused on the...

Scarcity has a bad reputation. When I think of scarcity, I think of fear, starvation, depletion of resources, loneliness, isolation, and generally not having enough. When I do get caught up in the negative effects of scarcity-thinking (or scarcity-experiencing), it’s easy to feel flooded by stress hormones, to feel stuck in that fear-based place of “I don’t have enough!!!” or “I myself am not enough, I can’t do this!!!!”

But if we can step back and separate scarcity itself from the underlyi...

In my yoga teacher training, I recently learned about the three A’s of the Alignment-based system of yoga I am learning. Here’s my take on how these three A’s (Attitude, Alignment, and Action) can be brought into our lives.

Attitude: This “A” is equivalent to the Spirit-level in Chinese Medicine. What is the song of my heart, what is my deepest longing for this one precious life, and how am I expressing that song by how I shine bright in this lifetime?

Alignment: This “A” equates with the le...

Do you crave a resting place?

So many of us are stressed-out beyond what we think is healthy! It’s easy to get all-consumed by work, by life, by our relationships.

When you reach your max, or ideally before, what you need is a nice time out.

Though it doesn’t always sound relaxing to lie around with needles, many people find acupuncture a pleasant break, an amazing reset, an opportunity to really check in and find out how you feel.

I made this (less than one minute!) video to help you define w...

A few weeks ago, I felt crushed by despair after a big disappointment at my (other) work. As the (part-time) Wellness Administrator at Drexel University, I oversee employee wellness opportunities for 5,000 people who have become so incredibly dear to my heart.

In the treatment room, I work singularly, one-on-one, and at Drexel, I touch 5,000 people all at once (!!!) every time I offer a new event, program, or initiative. The two seem very different sometimes, but both are aligned with my vi...

If you’ve ever been sick, stressed, or have just felt stuck, you’re probably feeling worn down and exhausted, unsure about what to do next or how to proceed. Maybe you’re trying lots of different things but none of them seem to be working. Maybe your impulse is to just keep pushing through, but you end up worn down, and what you really want seems even further away. Maybe you aren’t sure what you really want, or why you want it, so you have no idea how to get there.

These simple steps will h...
