My acupuncturist and I were recently talking about compost. 

I carry my kitchen scraps to a friend’s backyard every week or so to compost them. Compost piles might look fairly inert, apart from any surface activity, but it’s actually the underneath, the unseen layers, where all the action is. 

Beneath the pile of freshly-added scraps, microbes and bacteria are breaking down waste into soil. Gradually, gradually, everything melts and crumbles back into nutrient-rich earth.

I recently went to a potluck at a friend of a friend’s house. This was someone I vaguely knew from my neighborhood but wasn’t well acquainted with.

When I arrived, the host greeted me with a warm hug, and said, “Welcome Home.”

I was profoundly moved by this greeting! My eyes filled with tears.

It was the end of a busy day and though I was coming to the potluck from the place I live (my technical home), I had been in motion all day long, and not always as present as maybe I would like to be.

We tend to think of letting go as a big dramatic process, and sometimes it is. Letting go can mean letting go of a job, a relationship, or a story of blame or victimization that has been fueling your rage for years on end!

 Spring is the perfect time of year to lighten up your cooking! An abundance of vegetables are starting to make their way to the farmer’s market.
