Can acupuncture help you get a raise at work?!?!

I recently received this email from a fairly-new client:

“Hey Monica! I got a raise and I exercised!”

This is the kind of email that really makes my day!

While most people think of acupuncture as a way to get out of pain (physically, mentally, or emotionally), and that’s definitely part of what acupuncture does, that’s only the very beginning of what’s possible.

The bigger picture (and the thing that I want for all of my clients) is this sense of clarity and empowerment about how to move forward with living a life you really love. Acupuncture can help you feel good again so that you have enough energy to do your life the way YOU want to do it!

These days there is SO MUCH (too much?) health advice available. According to conventional wisdom, we should all be drinking 8 glasses of water, establishing a sleep hygiene routine, walking 10,000 steps, incorporating a mindfulness routine into our daily activities, and exercising vigorously for 30 minutes for 5 days a week. I'm not even going to mention nutrition here--that's a huge topic that often completely trips people up.

What I often find is that the onslaught of things people think they “should” be doing for their health completely overwhelms them. They often try to do it all and hit every category (sleep, exercise, meditate, eat “healthy”) and end up frayed and confused and not really managing to do any of these exactly, or to sort out which of these activities are actually really helping them. This overwhelm then leads to more stress which eventually can lead to throwing in the towel and having a donut instead.

That's why I was so happy to hear that this particular client was shining bright by really diving deep into two things--exercise and asking for a raise. The sense of excitement and confidence that implementing these changes instilled in her shine through in her email.

So, can acupuncture help you get a raise at work? Definitely maybe.

The first step is clarifying what you really want. A raise was a priority for this patient in terms of feeling that the work she was putting in was returning to her financially in a way she felt comfortable with. The raise helped her feel less burned out and it helped her work less hours and reprioritize how she was spending her time.

For me, real health isn't about doing the “right” things. At its best it's a sense of vitality and the sheer joy of being alive and taking care of yourself. True health, for me, is also a sense of confidence and empowerment that allows you to be adaptable and to take on life's challenges, like asking for a raise or stepping up and deciding you really do want to exercise (and being empowered enough to decide what exercise looks like for YOU at this particular moment in your life).

We’re falling headfirst into autumn now, which is a great time of year to prioritize what you really want to do to take care of yourself. The days are shorter and darker and they ask us to really focus in on what will support us best as we head into winter, the time of year where we rest and conserve our energy.

Take a moment and ask yourself--What one change would you really like to make in your life to support your own vitality? Not necessarily something you should do, but something you want to do. Pause and imagine all the things you could do, and ask yourself: What is it that you actually want to do? What small change do you think you could step into, even if only for a trial period of a couple of weeks.

If you’re not sure where to start, or if you want a partner in the process of starting to implement changes, consider reaching out to me for a free consult. We can discuss your health and wellness goals and we can figure out if acupuncture will be the best support for what you’re wanting in your life and in your health.

Enjoy the autumn air.

Love, Monica
