Why Every Story is Specific to You
In Buddhism, it’s sometimes said that there is no dharma (no teaching). My understanding of the “no-dharma dharma” is that every lesson that we learn in life happens IN CONTEXT. A teaching will not be received in the same way by two different people.
That’s why general weight-loss or health advice often falls short. It’s too general. It hasn’t taken into account an individual’s particular experiences, habits, and patterns of thinking or behavior. It hasn’t been taught in a way that’s digestible to a particular individual.
That’s why it’s important to work with a practitioner who understands you--your history, your values, your experiences, and your patterns of thought.
