You only need 5 (or 15) minutes.

Many of us have ambitious self-care goals. We want to meditate for an hour, exercise five times a week, kick the sugar habit, and spend significant time on self-development each day. If this is you, I’m all in on supporting you. I will gladly help you figure out what you need!

And, if this feels un-doable, unmanageable, or just plain overwhelming, I’m also here to make your journey reasonable, inspiring, and just right for whatever it is you’re working with in this life.

For the past few weeks, and somewhat on a whim, my mom and I have been doing Yoga with Adriene’s 30-Day Yoga Challenge. It’s really sweet and also weirdly-timed since I’m now teaching six yoga classes weekly and am starting to feel as strong as I felt during yoga teacher training, when I was practicing yoga all the time.

The daily practices are short. Most are about 25 minutes with a bit of an intro and some wrap-up. I have days where I’m not feeling as motivated, but the support of my mom (my accountability partner for this project) and the fact that the videos are so reasonable in length have allowed me to not miss a day yet.

What amazes me day after day is how amazing I feel just ten minutes into the practice. Sometimes I feel soothed, grounded, connected even sooner than that, but the message I wanted to offer you today is to remind you that just ten minutes (or even five or even three breaths) can help you RADICALLY shift how you feel.

Self care is a practice. Like yoga, like patience, like kindness, the most essential component of ANY practice is consistently showing up.

So, please, show up for yourself today. Take the time (and remember you don’t need an hour to harness the power of self-regulation) to pattern in one (or several) short self-care activities day after day after day.

And if you’ve got the time and attention for a full hour, or hours, of self-care, then absolutely go for it! I’m in for that too!

But please remember that regulation and repattering can also be harnessed in a brief amount of time. And the more you practice, the more easily you will fall back into the positive patterns you’ve taken the time to build for yourself.

Even if you only have ten minutes, or four, of four slow deep breaths, you CAN shift your energy and find yourself feeling so much better. Less anxious. Less angry. More peaceful. More you.

If you’re not sure where to start, or if you need help harnessing the practice of self-care into your life, a telemedicine “self-care strategy session” might be the perfect step for you. Especially if you’re still feeling unsure about acupuncture given COVID.

These thirty minute self-care strategy sessions are an excellent opportunity to talk through what is and isn’t working on in your life and to figure out how you can better meet your wellbeing goals. Priced at only $35 per session, these thirty minute sessions will help you create a personalized self-care plan, and can also serve to assist you with creating accountability for yourself.

PS: I also wanted to offer a vaccine update. I am on a wait list with the city to receive a vaccine as a healthcare worker (group 1a in Philadelphia) but because I have no hospital affiliation, it has been incredibly difficult (so far impossible) to actually schedule an appointment. Please know that I am working on receiving a COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible, on behalf of the wellbeing of us all. Let me know if you have other questions about how I continue to do what I am able to do to keep us all healthy and safe.
