Want to Start Spring Refreshed? Here’s How.

Good news! (For those of you who don’t love winter at least.) We are wrapping up the lunar year and are about one month away from spring. This lunar new year (February 17th this year) ushers in the year of the Fire Horse.

Be prepared for movement, momentum, and rapid transformation. The fire element on top of the unbridled momentum of the horse sign might mean that we’re a full-speed-ahead kind of year.

Knowing that we might have an energetically active year ahead can help you prioritize finding some resting time to recharge and plug back in as we approach the end of winter.

Rest doesn’t necessarily mean lying down, but that’s certainly one way to rest.

There’s still space in my Friday January 23rd Winter Restorative Rest and Restore workshop in-person at Studio 34 (one week away!). We will stay close to the ground and I’ll guide you through meditations and breathing practices to help you soothe your nervous system and settle. No yoga experience is required to attend. This offering is super accessible.

If you’re looking for other rest practices, you might consider: drawing (even if you’re “bad” at it), doodling, journaling, walking outside (especially at dawn or dusk), spending time without devices, cooking with friends, engaging in deep listening with a friend.

The kidneys (one of the wintertime organs  in Chinese Medicine) “open to the ears,” meaning that we have the opportunity to listen within, especially during the season of winter.

For those of you who might not like to focus on the breath in meditation, try focusing on sound instead, allowing your ears to open to the room around you. It can be a beautiful practice to simply receive, rather than reaching outwards to communicate or speak.

How do you like to rest? Drop me a line and let me know.
